All about materialsUpdated 10 months ago

Because our Sash bags are on our bodies all the time, rather than carried like a traditional purse, it's important that it be made from material that is easy to wear and looks amazing, too. This isn't the easiest thing to accomplish because we're pretty much the only ones doing it this way! That means lots of care and time is taken when choosing and making the leather, faux leather, and fabrics that we use to make a Sash.

Leather: Our leather is ethically sourced and is a by-product of the meat industry in the countries where we manufacture. Our high-quality, garment-grade, fashion leather is hand-dyed and finished. It may even have a foil overlay or additional textural element in the case of some specialty colors. Custom colors and finishes are made in collaboration with a leather master who operates a university for the study of leather-making in India.

Faux leather: Our faux leather feel and texture does vary and so we encourage you to read the product description in the each bag for details. They are a synthetic material and we choose them based on the color and to have a lightweight, easy wear feel. While manmade, these are refined and lush, not the same stuff leatherette car seats are made from! If you're looking for a great looking vegan option, we've got you covered.

Ikat fabric: The art of dyeing and weaving of Ikat fabrics is 1,000 years old and its home is in the hills of Hyderbad, India. It is on these massive, room-sized looms, that our Ikat fabrics are hand-made by women who create these distinctive and special patterned fabrics.

When you see an Ikat Sash, know that is not something mass-produced and may actually be a one-of-a kind pattern. These intricate patterns are available in limited quantities.

Fabric lining: The fabric that lines our speciality collection bags is specially designed to coordinate with the exterior bag colors and theme of the collection. The cotton-blend lining for our core collection bags is typically a solid, lighter tone of the outside of the bag.
