Sash wear and careUpdated 10 months ago

We recommend that you treat your Sash with a product that will protect it from stains and moisture if your lifestyle or climate calls for it. You don't absolutely HAVE to treat your bag (and a lot of us never have). We offer it as a recommendation because normal "wear and tear" isn't covered under our warranty and our customers want to know the best way to care for their Sash to keep it looking good!

Different people use their bag in different ways and there is a wide variety of climates and environments, so you'll have to decide what makes sense for you.

We will say that exposure to sunlight will fade colors over time, as happens with any other material. The fading will be more noticeable with brighter colors and may be a reason to choose to protect your bag. Also take care when wearing an untreated, light-colored Sash over dark clothing that may rub up against, and discolor your Sash.

Should you decide to treat your Sash bag, we suggest the following:

  • We use, recommend, and sell Leather Honey Leather Conditioner to keep it your leather Sash supple and soft. It can be used alone or mixed with a cream shoe polish for color touch ups. To darken the color of your genuine leather Sash, our manufacturer also recommends mineral oil.  Always test leather products on the underside of the strap before use. If you're going to condition your bag, you'll want to treat it every 3 months or so.

Notes on cleaning:

  • For leather: Be sure to always use a clean and very soft cloth to protect the finish and dye of the leather. We suggest using a cleaner that is made specifically to clean dyed leather. Be sure to test the underside of your strap before you clean other parts of your bag.

  • For faux leather: We recommend spot cleaning as needed with cold water and a mild liquid soap. DO NOT use an abrasive cloth or sponge as it will damage the faux leather finish. Leather Honey Cleaner works well on our faux leather bags. Please be sure to test on the underside of your strap before cleaning other parts of your bag.

  • For cloth: We recommend spot cleaning as needed with cold water and a mild liquid soap. It's not a requirement but occasionally treating with a fabric protector/ stain repellant will help insure your bag stays in its best condition possible. Do not machine wash or dry clean.
